Solo sessions: Julien Tassin ‘Primitiv’ + Tuur Florizoone ‘Night Shift’

Julien Tassin ‘Primitiv’

Julien Tassin is an exploratory guitarist dedicated to improvised and expressive original music. With a dedication to strong, lyrical melodies and beautiful themes, he creates an original language, tasteful musical landscape and above all uncompromising music whether he is playing solo or fronting his own band. ‘Primitiv’, the third solo album by Julien, is about human beings in their most primitive and essential form. Most of the tracks are composed of a handful of notes that can be played once or repeated again and again, like a mantra, leaving space for a sort of improvisation void of any constraint.

Tuur Florizoone ‘Night Shift’

This solo project, although it surprises the listener, more accustomed to hearing Tuur surrounded by other musicians, remains recognizable and authentic, like the accordionist. The strength of Tuur, who composes easily apprehensible melodies, gives way here to a more impressionistic approach where the melody is more abstract, like a kind of ‘feeling’. The result: 15 cinematic and intimate soundscapes with, sometimes, winds and percussion, produced by the accordion, which evoke all this intimate and sensory world discovered in the heart of the night. The atmosphere is rather subdued, contrasted by a few happy songs and a few covers.
