Louise Jallu - "Piazzolla Nuevo" + "JEU"

Grégoire Letouvet - piano / Karsten Hochapfel - Guitar / Alexandre Perrot - Double bass / Louise Jallu - bandoneon

Since the success of her first two creations Francesita (2019) and Piazzolla Nuevo (2021), praised and awarded numerous times, bandoneonist Louise Jallu is today recognized as a performing artist and composer with an enlightened musical vision. She has performed on legendary stages in classical, jazz and contemporary music (Philharmonie de Paris, Jazz in Marciac, Scène nationale La Filature, Abbaye de Noirlac, etc.)
For the first time, the Jazz Station invites him for two evenings, each offering a set from each of these extraordinary projects : PIAZZOLLA NUEVO (2021) and JEU (2024).

PIAZZOLLA NUEVO

There are many tributes to the master of tango. Too few people have been able to rise to the height of this statuary monument during his lifetime. It is this Himalaya that Louise Jallu dared to climb, choosing to scrutinize – sometimes even cut out – a dozen pieces by this outstanding melodist. Oblivion, Buenos Aires Hora Cero, Soledad, Adios Nonino and of course Libertango are on the program of this collection. The Frenchwoman chooses not to play the revival card, preferring to escape from the original to trace her own originality from this path. In short, play in the spirit, never literally. A rereading as scrupulous as it is critical, slowing down the tempo, opening spaces specific to improvisation, restructuring the thematic material, freeing new harmonic paths, reformulating the melody. This is where a relevant rereading of this master at overcoming clichés can be written for those who know how to listen between the lines.

JEU

After modernizing tango, it was obvious that the exploration and deeper explosion of modern musical styles and trends had to be at the heart of his new project : JEU.
Like a jeweler, Louise Jallu breaks down the old, chooses her materials with precision, assembles them with finesse, confronts them with elegance and power.
The virtuoso and mischievous dialogue between the different instruments overflows with poetry, strength and imagination. With each piece a new landscape, a new listening experience is sparked, like an invitation to challenge, move and surprise on the spot. As she did with Piazzolla, in her new album Louise unabashedly tackles big names, from classical (Schumann, Berg), to jazz (Coltrane), through more popular references (Boléro de Ravel, Brassens).
